LEIGH Centurions' 2004 successes will be officially recognised with a civic reception tonight (Thursday) at Leigh Town Hall.

The reception, to be hosted by the Mayor of Wigan, Councillor John Hilton, is the first available opportunity for players and officials to get together since the Grand Final victory over Whitehaven that propelled them into Super League X.

Council leader and life-long Leigh fan Peter Smith has invited club representatives and their partners to toast the Centurions' victory and wish them all the best for the 2005 campaign.

Cllr Hilton says: "The nerve-jangling victory over Whitehaven is still fresh in the minds of players and supporters alike, and it's only fitting that such a tremendous achievement is recognised in this way. Hopefully, the players will give a good account of themselves in Super League and once again do the town proud."

The Centurions also lifted the National League's Arriva Trains Cup back in July.
