THE Fire Brigade union claims that government plans to close all 46 fire service control rooms across the country, and open nine regional centres, would be a costly mistake.
The union says the plan is in a confidential government report leaked to leading officials.
Greater Manchester Fire Service's control room in Swinton would be closed just six years after it was built at a cost of £5 million.
In its place would be a combined control room, possibly in the Warrington area.
