HIGH winds and heavy rain meant that the weekend was one of the busiest of the winter season for Bury Council's emergency staff.
Workers, many based at the Bradley Fold HQ in Radcliffe, dealt with almost two dozen incidents in the worst 12-hour period on Saturday.
Building control staff attended numerous incidents from uprooted trees to structural damage, visiting homes throughout the night and organising contractors to secure buildings. In all, more than 50 incidents were reported over the whole weekend.
The council's tree team went on their first call at 4am on Saturday and continued on Sunday, dealing with damaged and fallen trees, some of which were blocking roads. They also dealt with a further 30 emergency calls on Monday, and say that the full clear-up will take some time.
