MONEY raised by the Rotary Club of Radcliffe has been used to buy essential aid for the tsunami devastated areas in South East Asia.
An Aquabox and two Shelterboxes - containing a ten-man tent and other vital equipment - have been paid for, to provide temporary homes and clean water for some of the tens of thousands of survivors of the disaster. Money has also been donated by the group to International Aid, based in Preston, and to the Rotary Club of Columbo North.
Ron Mollard, from Radcliffe Rotary, said: "There will be a long- term need for aid beyond the initial donations of money.
"After the initial collection following the disaster, we feel that collecting money now with buckets, when lots of other people are doing the same, might not be the best thing for us to do.
"So we will be looking at the long- term needs for the areas - for the need to build and the equipment they will need. We will be putting a collective thought to that, with less haste so we can decide what help we can give, and where. We must also no forget other charities that are in need of our support and help on a regular basis."
Around £5 million of Rotary aid has already been delivered.
