DESPITE the poor weather conditions Leigh Athletic resumed their pre-Christmas form to gain three more league points with a 3-1 home win over bottom club Wilmslow.

After a confident start Leigh peppered the Wilmslow goal but could not find a way past an inspired keeper, Phil Sheehan and Scott Lewis both being denied.

The writing was on the wall and Wilmslow conter-attacked to open the scoring.

Leigh continued to pour forward and after 20 frustrating minutes it was Steve Dando who finally broke their resistance. After jinking past two players on the edge of the box he let fly to give the keeper no chance.

With the strong wind behind them it was important Leigh took a lead in at half time and with only moments to the whistle it was evergreen Gordon Spowart who powered home from a corner.

Despite playing into the wind, Leigh never looked like surrendering their lead, the only surprise was that it took a further 45 minutes to add to their tally through Lewis.
