LANCASTRIAN'S First squash team had a straightforward victory against Cheetham Hill to keep them in the promotion hunt but the second team, playing away to Tame Valley, met much stiffer opposition.

Dave Haines, playing at one, had a tough close match, the 3-0 result in favour of the Tame Valley man, not reflecting the tight encounter on court. Bob Morgan playing at two, had another hard battle, losing 3-0.

Mike Howard thoroughly deserved the standing applause for his 3-1 win. After losing the first game Mike constantly changed the pace of the game to frustrate his much younger opponent. The youngster relentlessly chased down Mike's drives and drops but was unable to match the determination of the elder master.

The crowd were treated to another superb entertaining game when Lynda Gregory came back from two love down. With sheer hard work and effort Lynda battled in an exhausting five setter to win 3-2. Graham Draper was mismatched against a last minute replacement and was unable to cope with the speed of his opponent, losing 3-0.
