LEIGH RMI have dismissed reports that they are in talks about a takeover of the club.

Two people, claiming to be businessmen, used the clubs' online messageboard last week to tell fans of a proposed cash injection of £200,000.

But Chairman Bill Taylor replied: "Nobody has been in touch with me or anyone else on my board about a takeover or putting in some money.

"But if a group or individual did want to do that then we would, of course, listen to what they had to say if they got in touch with me", he added.

Meanwhile, the Railwaymen will be looking for a repeat of their FA Cup heroics at Accrington this weekend as they enter into the FA Trophy desperately needing a good run.

Only 251 people lined the terraces for Saturday's league defeat to Gravesend and with gates decreasing all the time, the prize money for progress in the FA Cup of non-league will help RMI to stay in business.

Geoff Lutley's men take on Conference North high-flyers Altrincham at Hilton Park in the third round.

But although the Robins are from a lower league, they'll be favourites to win the tie and extend their current run of unbeaten games to eight.

Meanwhile, RMI have signed former Barnsley striker Ashley Scothern as they bid to bring back some pride to a club facing early relegation.

Scothern was a highly-rated prospect in South Yorkshire before a couple of fractured legs hampered his career progress.
