IN the Irwell Street Metals A Section Walshaw A entertain Bury Snooker C and got off to a flyer when Pete Lomas enjoyed a narrow victory over Tom Gay.

Their lead was doubled when Barry Smith had an equally close succes over Kevin Bogden.

Mark Burns took the next for Bury on the black but the two frame lead was restored by Andy Davis who comfortably defeated Jed Ridgley.

The Snooker Club took the next frame but the final one was won in style by Ricky Vadasz to give Walshaw a 6-2 win.

Walmersley Con travelled to Fishpool and walked away with a thumping 8-1 success.

Colin Jones won the first grame convincingly against Sam Thompson.

Ray Hamer had a narrow win over Joe Turk to make it 2-0 then Chris Both made it 3-0 when he defeated Ste Hilton.

Glynn Openshaw was unlucky to lose on the black to Nick Barrett but Roy Pearson had to such problems when he thrashed Gerry Morrison.

At 5-0 down it was left to Dave Eckersley to salvage a modicum of pride for Fishpool when he won the final frame.

Tottington D suffered a home defeat to Elton Lib C in a very high-scoring match.

Andy Rhodes beat Gareth Haynes to give Tottington the lead but Phil Brearley levelled matters with a brilliant 103-13 win.

Paul Taylor and Ian Brearley then put Tottington into a 3-1 lead but Elton took the last two frames thanks to Mick Hamer and Paul Holt.

The match came down to the aggregate and this went Eltons way by 27 points.

It was an equally close match at Salisbury where the visitors were Huntley A.

The clash went back and forth all the way through. Salisbury won the first, third and fifth frames so Huntley were always coming from behind.

Jimmy Morrison, Douglas Fairbairn and Dave Kean were the winners for Salisbury with Darren McHugh, Daz Harrison and Ralph Claxton winning for Huntley.

This too went to the aggregate which the home team won by 68 points.

In the B Section, Walshaw B had a narrow win at Whitefield Snooker.

Neil Cordingley took the opening frame on the black for the home side by Jason Vadasz and Ian Howarth hit back for Walshaw with comfortable wins.

Eddie Taylor pulled Whitefield level but Derek Bury and Dave Long sealed the win.

Salisbury B visited Huntley C and came away with an 8-1 win.

It was not an easy victory with two frames being won on the black and both going to Salisbury.

Gaz Spanner and Michael Campbell got the visitors off to a good start with the first two frames and Paul Ramlaul, Mick Burke junior and senior made it 5-0.

Paul English got a consolation frame for Huntley when he beat John Smith that was all it was.

Elton Lib D were a home to Tottington but it was the visitors who took first blood when Carl Johnson took the first grame.

After that it was almost all Elton as they fattled off the next four frames thanks to Harry Moxon, Phil Wolfenden, Shamus King and Chris Hartley.

Chris Pursglove took the final frame but it was in vain and Elton won 6-2.

It was a similar result at Tottington B who were visited by Elton Lib A. Ted Nadin took the first grame for Tottington but Ste Hudson got the next for Elton.

Neil Rigby took the next to put Tottington back into the lead but again Elton drew level thanks to a black ball win by Luke Derbyshire.

Peter Lomax put Tottington ahead again but once more the frames were levelled when Daryl Cosgrove beat Tony Wilcox.

It was that last frame that decided the tie as the margin of victory was enough to give Elton the extra points, and the match.

There was a short trip for Radcliffe St Marys who were away at Radcliffe Central.

The home team got off to a good start and took the opening two frames thanks to Kris Morris and Neil Craven.

Geoff Farrington pulled one back for St Marys but Morris Ryder lost the next to put Central 3-1 up.

Paul Dudley took the next for St Marys to leave a tense final frame between Brian Smith and Paul Hewart. Paul won the frame to make it 3-3 but not by enough to take the aggregate so Central won 5-3.

In the C Section, Hollins had a narrow home win against Bury Bridge. In a match that had three black ball frames, one of which was the opener between Anthony Nolan and Bernard Pratt, the match was not settled until the final one.

Bury Bridge took the first frame but Hollins hit back taking the next three frames thanks to Dean Higgins, Phil Sidebottom and Ian Trow.

Bury Bridge hit back to take the net two including a black ball final frame win by Wayne Usher. However, it was not enough and the home team took the aggregate.

In a reversal of the match in the B Section, Radcliffe Central travelled to St Marys and suffered a defeat by the same score that their B team had won it by.

It looked as though Central might walk away with the match when Zia Aslam, Alan Green and Tony Green took the first three frames.

But St Marys hit back and took the next three frames and by high enough scores to turn around the aggregate and take the match 5-3.

Struggling Tottington A travelled to Stanley A and nearly got a surprise victory. They were 3-2 up going into the final frame thanks to wins by Dean Barlow, Dave Malone and Chris Graham.

Tony Filidoro and Andy Birchall had kept Stanley in the match going into the final frame which was to be contested between Craig Seymour and Doug Johnson.

It was Craigs quality that came through with a 63-38 win for Stanley which was enough to take the aggregate.

High-flying Stanley B were at Walmersley Con and got off to a bad start when Dennis Lomas lost the first frame against Mike Brejwo. Dave Bennett pulled the next frame back for Stanley only for Mark Patton to lose badly against Dave Morley to put Walmersley 2-1 up.

Dave Holt took the next on the black for Stanley and this led to a them taking the next two frames and winning the match.

Last seasons bottom club have certainly improved a lot and they had a great 8-0 home win against Buchanans. The most notable win was by Danny Brejwo who saw off Frank Kennedy 97-28.

In the final match Huntley B went to Seedfield and came away with a 7-2 win.

Seedfield's wins were the final two frames of the night when it was too late and came courtesy of Tim and Chris Morgan. Kevin Martin, Jack Gill, Pete Croft and Paul Gill were the Huntley winners.
