TWO firemen based in Bury are heading the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Prince's Trust programme.

Terry Orrell and Chris Coughlan, both based at Bury fire station, are the team leaders of the scheme, which will give youngsters the chance to get their lives back on track and make learning fun at the same time.

The two firefighters will be holding a coffee morning at the station for 16 to 25-year-olds to find out more about just what is on offer. The programme delivers a 12-week, full-time personal development prgramme for teams of up to 20 who are out of work or education and are looking to take on some new challenges.

During the three months, youngsters will have the chance to spend a day at Bolton Wanderers Football Club, as well as a day training with firefighters.

They will also be able to undertake work experience in the fire and rescue service, while studying for one of 14 nationally recognised qualifications. Terry explained: "We want people from all backgrounds to join us. We are not bothered about criminal records and they do not need any qualifications; no-one will be discriminated against."

The course is free and kicks off on January 24. Anyone who is unable to get a place on the first team will have the opportunity to join another team during the next three years.

To attend the coffee morning next Wednesday 10.30am at Bury fire station, The Rock, call Terry on 07966 595 305 or Chris on 07973 927 348.
