HITTING all the right notes at Bury Parish Church is teenage musical maestro Peter Stevens, who has just performed a special solo concert.

Peter, of Beechfield Drive in Bury, played to an audience of 70 at the church, in Market Place, in an hour-long lunchtime concert on the same stage that world famous American organist, Carlo Curley, played just a few weeks before.

The 17-year-old first demonstrated his musical ability at the age of five after sitting down with his father at a small keyboard and playing by ear.

He took up lessons and became an organist at St Marie's Church in Bury at just seven years old.

Peter is a pupil at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, studying organ and piano and is preparing for his "gap" year before starting a scholarship in 2006 at Kings College, Cambridge.

Adding to his credentials, Peter is currently the junior organ scholar at Manchester Cathedral and assistant organist at Bury Parish Church as well as continuing as resident organist at St Marie's.

He is applying to cathedrals across the country, including Worcester and St George's in Windsor, to become an organ scholar during his "gap" year.

His mother, Alicja Stevens, said: "Peter would love to be a cathedral organist. If he could, he would spend all his days just playing music, but he has his other A-levels to think about this year! The concert went really well and was a varied programme with something for everyone. We are very proud of him."
