PRESTON boss Billy Davies has indicated he may have to start selling after taking his haul of incoming players to eight in six weeks.

Teenage striker Dave Nugent furthered Preston's squad strengthening when he finally agreed to come to Deepdale from Bury.

Preston have also signed Matt Hill from Bristol City and have brought in Sheffield United defender Rob Kozluk, initally on a one month loan. But Kozluk's impressive performance at right back in the cup defeat against Preston could be enough to persuade Davies to ask the Deepdale board to make the loan permanent.

Along with Chelsea loanee Filipe Oliveira, Preston have also strengthened their squad with Chris Sedgwick from Rotherham and Patrick Agyemang from Gillingham.

The latter two have gone straight into the North End side and have begun to impress the Deepdale faithful.

Davies said: "Six signings in eight weeks is a lot for a club in our situation, and I am very grateful to the chairman for his support.

"I do know it can't all be one-way traffic though, and squads can't just get bigger. When new players come in, it sends others down the pecking order and that creates change."

Whether that triggers more loan-outs or permanent depatures remains to be seen. Simon Lynch may be one to go, and is already out on loan.

Nugent is likely to fall in front of Lynch in the battle for a first team place. And Joe O'Neill, who started in a game for the first time for North End last weekend, could also go back out on the road.

But the prospect of letting more valuable assets go is unlikely. Keeper Andrew Lonergan and winger Eddie Lewis are both apparently being watched by Premiership clubs, but Davies would be loathe to lose them.

The ultimate aim is to create a 22 man squad, and Davies admits his current group is on the big side.

After last week's crisis -- caused by suspension, injury and a flu bug -- Davies is very much back in the realms of the feast.

Striker Richard Cresswell is back from suspension, and likely to partner up with Patrick Agyemang again, although Nugent may also figure in the game.

Brian O'Neil is also back from his red card ban, while Claude Davis and Tyrone Mears are said to be fit again.

The latter two were on the bench last weekend, even though they weren't fit. And both Hill and Oliveira will be after places, while Kozluk will want to keep his.
