Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman says he is not prepared to let winger Rory Prendergast go on the cheap.

The Reds have rejected a five-figure offer for the 25-year-old from Coca Cola League Two side Bristol Rovers because it was way below their valuation figure.

But boss Coleman says he is not surprised Prendergast has caught the eye of a Football League side.

"I wouldn't like to single anyone out but I think we have a few players who are capable of making the step up," he said.

"The offer was made for Rory through a third party but, as far as I'm concerned, nothing's happening.

"At the end of the day, everyone's got their price and if someone makes an offer we deem acceptable we would have to consider it."

"I know what he's worth but I'm not prepared to say, but their offer was way below what we would want."

He added: "It's not a case of wanting to stand in anyone's way. I think maybe 10 years ago it would have been seen as a good move, but there's not much difference between the Conference and the Football League now in terms of both football and finances.

"But hopefully our players will get the chance to play in the League with Accrington Stanley."
