STAFF at St Gabriel's RC High are celebrating a placing that shows the school has more to offer than good exam results.

The Bridge Road school was on a list of the 37 most successful in the north west when it came to passing muster with inspectors from the education watchdog Ofsted.

St Gabriel's is one of a select band to appear twice on a list of schools deemed particularly successful in annual reports for the organisation, formed in 1992. That fact was enough to have it included in a "hall of fame" compiled for Chief Inspector David Bell.

As well as recognising the work undertaken to sustain and improve upon academic successes, Ofsted reports look at wider aspects of school life. They examine the attitude of pupils and parents to the school, pastoral care, successful management and overall morale.

Headteacher Mr Eddie Robinson said: "The school is delighted to have been named in the Chief Inspector's annual report on two occasions.

"This is a tribute to all our staff, pupils and community who strive to live the gospel values that underpin all our work."
