AS a mother who is employed in one of the caring professions, and who has an extensive knowledge and understanding of substance misuse, I have taken steps to educate my children in the dangers of using illicit substances, and the impact that drugs can have on their lives.
While watching the recent BBC documentary "Drugland", I was therefore horrified to see my two sons being filmed in our local park in Bury. The documentary implied that all the youths - most of whom I know personally and who were in the park at the time - used drugs. Furthermore, when I questioned my sons, they told me that during the summer months a film crew had walked through the park and filmed them without any explanation as to why.
I was disappointed and angry that innocent teenagers, spending time in the park as they have nowhere else to go, were portrayed as drug-users. I am also very annoyed that Bury was portrayed as a drug dealers' haven, full of youths who are willing to buy their goods.
