A MAN who launched a violent attack at a house within hours of his brother's funeral has been jailed for a year.

Paul Bradshaw mistakenly blamed his assault victim for his relative's suicide. He and a friend went to an address in the Blackburn area and carried out the assault.

A Preston Crown Court judge sent him and a second man, Kevin McGuigan, to jail and told them the injuries that resulted had been extremely nasty and frightening.

Bradshaw, 30, who was born in Burnley, but now lives in Hailsham, East Sussex, and McGuigan, 23, of Fairclough Road, Accrington, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Bradshaw was given 12 months imprisonment and his co-defendant nine months.

The assault took place on July 12 last year, the same date as the funeral of David Bradshaw. The court was told there had previously been a connection between him and the family of Geoffrey West, the man who was assaulted.

That night Mr West was at home at his address in the Blackburn area when he answered a loud bang at the front door and was confronted by the two defendants.

David Temkin, defending Bradshaw, said: "He was full of drink and emotion."

Mark Stuart, defending McGuigan, said he had not gone to cause trouble but he got involved and joined in.
