BACUP recovered from the shock of finding themselves 2-0 down on a poor surface to record an important away win.

Both goals were scored against the run of play - the first on 18 minutes after Bacup's Jamie Bates gave the ball away in the centre of the park, the second courtesy of Barry Massey's glancing header.

With two strikers on the Bacup bench and captain Steve Stott attacking down the slope in the second half it was inevitable that changes would be made at half-tim.

Manager Brent Peters sacrificed defender David May for striker Darren Emmett and introduced Stott for Bates, who was finding the conditions difficult to cope with.

It took Emmett five minutes to make his mark when he linked up well with David Gray for Karl Stanley to shoot past the in-form home keeper.

Three minutes later Emmett delivered a defence-splitting pass for the pacy David Gray, who cleverly slotted the ball through the keeper's legs to equalise.

Two minutes later, Emmett's cross into the box was handled, a penalty was given but Lee Wilkinson agonisingly shot well over the bar.

Borough won a second penalty on 65 minutes when Emmett was brought down, and this time captain Stott made no mistake.

Emmett got his just reward on 88 minutes after being released by Stanley to finish well.
