PROBATION in Lancashire is looking for more special people in the area to become volunteer mentors - promoting the rehabilitation of offenders in the community.
The National Probation Service has set a priority on improving offenders' basic skills.
And it has a target for Lancashire to ensure that by April 2005 at least 965 offenders on community sentences start basic skills courses leading to recognised qualifications.
The volunteer mentor has a vital role encouraging offenders' progress and acting as a link for the offender and their course tutors and probation supervising officers.
Anybody interested in becoming a mentor can contact Nicola Murray on 07884 440800 or on 01772 256650.
