A QUEST to find Pendle's answer to the Angel of the North gets under way today.
Civic leaders are launching a £600,000 project to commission three or four 'landmarks' for the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Brierfield, Whitefield and Bradley.
The Large Projects Fund, is part of efforts to boost the canal as a tourist attraction as well as making the area more pleasant for residents.
It follows the success of the small projects fund which has given £130,000 to projects including a heritage trail, Quarry Hill nature reserve and an educational programme on the Kennet canal boat.
At the private launch people will be encouraged to think about what could be achieved with the money and are invited to bid for a share of the fund, set up by Pendle Partnership.
It is expected that successful projects will receive a grant of £75,000 to £100,000.
