NEWLY appointed Centurions skipper, Darren Fleary, will sit out Saturday's opener against the club he skippered last season.

Fleary has not yet fully recovered from a knee injury and the Centurions are likely to be led out in Super League for the first time by club captain Jason Ferris.

Fleary was appointed on Monday, replacing Ian Knott. "Fleary is a born leader," says coach Darren Abram. "From the first couple of training sessions you could tell how much respect he commanded. I think it's a good appointment"

Aussie half-back Ferris will be club skipper.

"He also leads from the front and dictates our play but he's also a good communicator and will act as a go-between for the coaching staff and players."

Leigh's initial 20-man squad for Saturday is: Cooper, Duffy, Ferris, Henderson, Jackson, Jones, Kent, King, Wilkes, Leafa, McCurrie, Rowley, Smyth, Knott, Stapleton, Sturm, Turley, Wilshere, Moore and Owen.

The squad will be further reduced to 18 on Friday.

Police will now allow Leigh to sell tickets for the Huddersfield game on Saturday between 9am and 2pm.
