A SHOPLIFTER tried to steal property from a Bury store to fund a gambling addiction, a court was told.
Adam Anthony Platt (30), of Wood Terrace, Ainsworth, appeared before magistrates in Bury and admitted the theft of compact discs worth £29 from Asda.
Mr Mike Wallbank, prosecuting, said Platt had gone into the store in Spring Street and had removed the security packaging and electronic tags from the compact discs and stuffed them down his trousers before attempting to leave.
Defending, Miss Lucy Ashton said Platt had previously suffered problems with drug addiction which had led to health problems and mood disorders, but had now transferred his addiction to gambling.
Platt had succumbed to temptation to steal to fund his gambling habit.
After hearing of Platt's personal problems, magistrates ordered pre-sentence reports and Platt, who was granted bail, will return to court to be sentenced on March 10.
