THE organisers of Pendle's annual Carnival in the Park say this year's event should be the best yet.

Last year more than 3,500 people packed into Nelson's Victoria Park for the annual event - and this year organisers are hoping for an even bigger crowd.

Gayle Knight of Mid Pennine Arts said there will be something for everyone at the family festival.

She added: "Last year it was fantastic and we were lucky because the weather was fantastic.

"We just want to keep building on previous years. There will be something for everyone and it will be a real family day out."

This year a number of new attractions are planned for the carnival including a large television screen which will show events on the day and more emphasis will be placed on featuring local talent, especially bands.

It will also include quality workshops with professional artists as well as musical performances, circus skills, food and stalls.

The event is organised by Mid Pennine Arts, Pendle Leisure Trust and Pendle Community Network.

And the organisers want Pendle folk to add to the carnival by contributing ideas for attractions.

Miss Knight added: "The festival is six months away and there is a lot of things that need to be sorted out so if people want to suggest ideas they can.

"There will be more emphasis on local talent from all cultures and it will be a real summer festival."

The carnival will be held from 12pm to 7pm on Sunday, July 31, and anyone wishing to make contributions should ring Mid Pennine Arts on 01282 421986.
