A Bury air trooper had no slip-ups when he contested the Army Air Corps Junior Skiing championships.
For Stephen Johnson (19), a former pupil of St Gabriels High School, won the title at a recent ski meeting in Austria.
Stephen took up the sport last season and has specialised in cross-country skiing, combining it with shooting in biathlon events.
"I started because it sounded like a good sport. I enjoy keeping fit and we do a lot of hill running and long runs.
"My aim is to beat everyone in my own corps!"
Stephen is serving as an air crewman in Dishforth, Cambridgeshire, with 672 Squadron, 9 Regiment Army Air Corps.
His parents Krut and Gabriella still live in Bury.
