BLACKBURN Rovers striker Paul Dickov is facing a race against time to be fit for next week's FA Cup replay with Burnley at Ewood.

The Scotland international, who is Rovers' leading scorer this season with nine goals, aggravated a groin injury during Sunday's match at Turf Moor and he will have round-the-clock treatment between now and Tuesday in the hope of facing the Clarets in the re-match.

"I'm hoping to be fit for the game but we probably won't know until Monday," said Dickov, who has not joined the rest of the squad for a training break in Dubai this week.

Dickov has actually been playing with a tear in his groin since he first sustained the injury against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

That has prevented him from training during the week but he's managed to get through games so far by having an injection on the day of the matches.

However, against Burnley on Sunday he aggravated the injury again when he pulled his leg back to shoot midway through the second half and he's now hoping a spell of intensive treatment will get him back on the road again.

"It's something that's been troubling me for a while," said the former Leicester striker.

"I first did it against Newcastle on Boxing Day and we've been trying to manage it ever since.

"I haven't been training from Monday to Thursday and then on Saturdays, I've been having injections to get me through the games.

"It's not ideal but because I've known I can get through games it's something I'd rather do than sit matches out.

"The manager and Dave Fevre, the physio, have both been great.

"They've not forced me to play, they've left the decision down to me.

"I really need complete rest for a few weeks to let it heal properly but we're just trying to get through until the end of the season and then I can rest it then."

If Dickov fails to make a sufficient recovery in time to face the Clarets it will come as a set-back to manager Mark Hughes, who hardly has a plethora of in-form srikers at his disposal.

In the meantime, Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage has warned his team-mates not to take anything for granted ahead of next week's replay.

Rovers are now the favourites to go through to round six but Savage is well aware that there's still plenty of work to be done yet.

"To come away with a 0-0 draw is very credible against a team that is doing well under Steve Cotterill, but we will be taking nothing for granted in the replay," said the midfielder.

"Last year, when I was playing for Birmingham, we had Sunderland at home in a fifth round replay and we blew that one. So I know what it's like.

"We've now time to prepare, as we don't have a game this weekend, and hopefully we will prepare in the right manner and finish them off in the replay."

Rovers reserves are away to Leeds United tonight (kick off 7pm).
