I AM in agreement with the nurse from Fairfield Hospital who expressed concerns regarding security on the car parks there (Letters, February 4).

On January 26 I parked at Fairfield to collect a prescription for my husband. I was in the hospital only half an hour and returned to my car to find two youths in the process of stealing my radio, after first breaking my window.

On the spur of the moment I challenged them and they quickly left in a car, which I later found out was unregistered.

This was a very frightening, and potentially dangerous, situation and could have ended very differently. The cost of damage to my car in that short period was £500.

It is disgusting and totally unacceptable that Fairfield Hospital should collect revenue from car parking and appear to use none of it to improve safety and security, despite constant complaints from vulnerable staff and visitors. It is no secret that the car parks there have been regularly targeted by thieves for quite some time, and still nothing is done.

Come on Fairfield management, get your finger out!

PAT BRIERS,

Bury.
