AN ATHERTON homeowner had the shock of his life when he dug up a World War Two mortar shell in his Oxford Road garden on Tuesday. He immediately called the police and a bomb disposal team raced to the scene. They took the mortar shell away to dispose of it and no one had to be evacuated from their homes.
