TWENTY Leigh churches will gather together to take part in this year's annual World Day of Prayer Unity Service.
Composed by Christians of Poland on the theme "Let our light shine" the service, celebrated in more than 3000 UK churches and 180 countries worldwide, will take place at St. Peter's Church, Firs Lane, Leigh, on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 pm.
The address will be given by Mrs Elizabeth Cunningham, of St. Mary's Parish Church, Leigh.
Historically Poland has been an area of conflict because of the flat terrain and lack of natural barriers on the North European plain.
At the end of World War 2 the country found itself within the zone of Soviet influence, with the imposed political and economic ideology of a socialist system. However, 1998 brought independence and 2004 was an important historical milestone when it became a member of the European Union.
