IN his letter "Councillor should see wider picture" (LET, February 16), Councillor Smith states: "Councillor Davies, try to put yourself in the place of the dentist. If you were opening a new practice would you place it in the middle of Darwen or the middle of Blackburn, remembering that this practice will cover the entire borough?"

If this is how a Labour councillor and the ruling party in Blackburn thinks, then I think Darweners had better be very afraid because on this premise Darwen will never see any new developments because they must go to where the majority of people live, which in this councillor's opinion, is Blackburn.

He also contradicts himself by saying: "I would like to point out to Councillor Davies that people are currently travelling to places as far away as Blackpool and Manchester to find an NHS dentist."

Why not put them in Darwen where parking is still free!

Just one more point, if my memory serves me right none of the people in the borough had a problem getting an NHS dentist eight years ago.

I started to go downhill just after Labour was voted in.

So it does sound a bit rich a Labour councillor telling a Lib Dem that I should look at the wider picture because they have been looking at things through rose-tinted spectacles since they got into power.

Councillor ROY DAVIES, (Sudell Ward), Olive Lane, Darwen.
