TWO masked thugs stole a car after confronting the owner after he had stopped to check a tyre.

The men sped off in the Volkswagen Polo after forcing the 34-year-old driver to hand over his keys in Gigg Lane, Bury, at its junction with Surrey Drive, at 9pm on Wednesday.

Police say the man was driving the silver-coloured car along Gigg Lane towards Manchester Road when he stopped to check for a puncture.

As he did, two men wearing balaclavas ran towards him, one of them demanding the car keys. The driver started to run, but slipped and fell.

The thugs got the keys and drove off towards Manchester Road.

One of the robbers was aged in his late teens to early 20s, 5ft 4ins tall, slim, of medium build and wore a dark woollen bomber-style jacket and dark trousers. His accomplice was 5ft 9ins tall and wore dark clothing.
