ANTI-bypass protesters have kicked off a campaign against the planned Heysham link road - and are vowing to make people think again.
Around 80 people turned up at a special meeting in Lancaster, called by the Green Party's Cllr John Whitelegg. And 47 signed up to block the proposed £85m Northern Bypass.
Cllr Whitelegg says the meeting was not just members of the Green Party but also residents who will be affected by the new road's impact on Torrisholme, Beaumont and Skerton.
"The meeting was a huge success. Speaker after speaker expressed their doubts about this road and their fears about environmental damage," Cllr Whitelegg says.
"Many went further and contributed ideas about how to solve traffic problems in ways that did not involve a bypass.
"The group will now meet regularly to produce a newsletter, object to the plan and show how £85 million can be spent in a far more intelligent manner to solve traffic problems and benefit everyone."
