THE good news of the past week has been the removal of the two fallen trees from the Island Lodge and the Cartwheel Lodge.

This was a difficult task brought to a satisfactory conclusion and much appreciated.

In general, reports from local waters have been few due to the colder weather, the best reports coming from the river venues.

In the Sunday Open, held at Pilsworth Fisheries Bottom Ponds, D. Williams (Rod Rest Heywood) took first place with 21-4-0, then B. Taylor (Fishermans Way) took second place with 9-13-0, M. Davidson (Swinton AC) came third with 8-0-0, and D. Edwards (Rod Rest Heywood) in fourth with 7-12-0.

The third round of the Todmorden Winter League took place on Sunday on the Rochdale Canal, between Lower Dean and Clegg Hall. Fished in bitterly cold weather with snow, top weight fell to J. Meredith (Tek Neek Trabuus Halifax Black) with 7-5-0. In second place, D. Holland (Tri Cast Highfield) took 6-3-0, and D. Kearney (Leigh Angling) took 5-15-0 for third place.

Tri Cast Rochdale Red lead the league with 88 points, Team Warburtons 80 points gives them second place and Tri Cast Highfield in third with 76.

In the Wednesday Open held on Taylor & Nicholsons, M. Liptrot had top weight of 4-2-0, S. Gent 3-8-0, and W. Gregson 2-9-0.

In the Bradshaw Fisheries Silver Fish Open, fished on no. 4, B. Brierley (GTI Sports) took 12-3-0 while M. Taylor (Tri Cast Highfield) had second place with 9-2-0, J. Cantello (Tri Cast Highfield) came third with 7-12-0, and D. Jowett jnr (Fishermans Way) was in fourth place with 7-10-0.

The River Swale in Yorkshire was the venue for the River Swale Team Masters, fished by 240 anglers, between Morton and Baldersby. K. Mottram (Aireborough), fishing a glide below Morton Bridge, took 47 chub to 4lb to take a record top weight of 123-12-0. In second place, S. Hodson (RSPS Tek Neek Trabucco) took 52-4-0, and John Leyland (Fish Mania) 33-1-0.

BURY SENIOR SECTION

THE February meeting takes place at Elton Liberal Club on Monday, February 28, 7.30pm. The new map books will be available and will be supplied to local tackle shops.

The fifth winter league match scheduled to take place on the Island Lodge on Sunday has been cancelled due to lack of support.
