Radcliffe Athletic Club held its presentation evening at Radcliffe Borough's clubhouse, and Donna Allen came away the big winner.

She won the Senior Ladies Fell Championship, the Terry Nortley Cross-Country Cup and the President's Shield to mark a year of excellent achievement.

Having never achieved a podium place in the South-East Lancashire Cross-Country, Radcliffe's ladies found themselves in second place this year - with Donna playing the leader's role.

She has lifted the ladies standard at Radcliffe and encouraged others to follow.

The Road Championship went to David Bartlett, a fitting reward for a guy who has demonstrated dogged perseverance, with Jim Sutcliffe and Mark Jackson following up.

Tony Holt took the over-40's section and Adrian Harris held off Tony Davies, Steve Hamer and Mark Emmett to win the over-45's for the fifth year in a row.

With the category win goes the Norman Schofield Trophy, presented by the wife of a former member who died in his late forties.

With Alec Steel first over-50, Frank Brad beating Iain Harris to the over-55's prize, and Alan Sumner best over 60, there was quality among the club's veterans. Tom West gave Alan a good early season challenge, then fell away when he was struck by illness.

The ladies section went to Anna Lupton, who battled through a couple of injuries to get there. Glenda Garry pipped Denise Sutcliffe for the over-45's title.

On the fells it was Danny Appleby first and Mark Cartwright second, holding Jim Sutcliffe in third.

Tony Holt added the over-40 prize to his road win, and Peter McNulty rounded off a season of good form by finishing first over-45. Brian Booth's consistency brought him victory at over-50.

Donna Allen was first senior lady, holding off Gerry Dewhurst to take the title. Denise Sutcliffe was best over-45 a great result for a girl who suffers a lot with pre-race nerves - and Sheila McNulty had a great season at over-55.

Cross-country: 1 Danny Appleby, 2 David Bartlett, 3 Jim Sutcliffe. O/40; Mike Howard;

Over 45: Adrian Harris. Ladies 1 Donna Allen, 2 Carly Hancock; 3 Gerry Dewhurst.
