I WAS delighted to read the letter from "Annoyed Resident" (February 4) addressing the problem of horse manure on Rudgwick Drive, Bury.
I was also interested in the three letters written in response, all of which missed the point.
"Annoyed Resident" clearly stated that he/she enjoyed seeing the horses but simply objected to the horse droppings being deposited on the pavement. We are not asking riders to dismount to clear up the mess, as this would clearly be unreasonable; we are simply asking that they ride on the road in future, and not the footpath.
With a school at either end of the estate, there is surely a health hazard here. I frequently walk on the estate with a pushchair which then has to be cleaned.
And when I am walking with my little boy is walking I do not expect to be tiptoeing around horse manure, or walking on the road to avoid the muck-ridden pavements.
This is a quiet housing estate and, whilst most people would agree that the horses are an enjoyable sight, there is no reason for them to be ridden on the pavement, whether the riders are beginners or not. They are, however, most welcome to ride on the road.
