CHILDREN are being blamed for starting a blaze which destroyed a quantity of refuse inside a derelict garage.

A settee and an assortment of other rubbish was engulfed in the fire which broke out in the concrete structure at the rear of Bridgefield Street, Radcliffe, on Saturday. Two adjoining garages, also disused, were affected by smoke.

Fire officers believe youngsters gained entry to one of the garages before starting the blaze. A fire crew was at the scene for half an hour.
