HURRAH! If Labour wins the next election pensioners can expect a one-off payment of £200 towards council tax (helpful but not enough). Also free bus passes for pensioners -- very nice and about time.
But who at the end of the day is going to have to pay for all this, if the government does not give extra funding to town halls?
The answer is you and me and that includes the pensioners it is supposed to be helping. We will face a hike in council tax bills to cover these proposals. So it's back to the drawing board.
