TWO of the three Leigh Centurions executive directors - Derek Beaumont and Stephen Blakeley - have resigned.

The pair quit on Tuesday with immediate effect, leaving Phil Coffey as the sole surviving executive director of engage Super League's bottom club reports the Super League website.

"We are just coming to terms with the news," said assistant coach Tommy Martyn. "We're as shocked as anybody. We're not too sure where we go from here."

Beaumont, who was the club's commercial director, resigned, along with football director Blakeley.

The Centurions are the only team without a point after the first six rounds and have conceded an average of almost 40 points a match.

In a joint statement Beaumont and Blakeley said: "It is a difficult day for us personally and one we feel very sorry about.

"We have worked tirelessly in the past couple of years for the benefit of Leigh Centurions and will remain loyal and passionate fans of the club.

"We wish our fellow directors the best of luck for the rest of the season with the way they decide to operate the club and sincerely hope Leigh Centurions can remain in Super League."
