Only Richard Lowton showed he can hold his own by beating Cons captain, Barry Hardman, 21-9.

THIS annual one-day event will be held on Saturday, June, 18 at the Eagle & Child, Whitefield.

The competition is open to all bowlers who play in the Prestwich & District League.

Entry fee is £2 and the event carries generous prize money, being sponsored by Mr. Peter Cooney.

Players can enter on the day before 1pm, when the draw will be made. Strike out is 1.30pm.

A free buffet will be available for all players and officials.

FRIDAY MIXED PAIRS

THE mixed pairs competition to be held at Openshaw Park begins tonight and players are asked to be present between 6.30pm and 6.45pm so the draw can be made for a 7pm start.

Clubs are reminded that they can have two pairs up to a maximum of ten.

Any team or bowlers turning up on the night with only one pair will be accepted within the leagues structure.

Entrance fee is £2 per mixed pairs and other greens to be used are Nuttall Park, Tottington Conservative Club and Walmersley Conservative Club.

CLIVE Chapman and Simon Wilcocks had an excellent game with no more than two points separating them before Clive got home 21-19.

Mick Howard played Stuart Kenyon and the latter raced into an early 9-2 lead before Mick rallied and it went to the wire 20-20.

Mick had to beat a two foot bowl to win and came with a front toucher to take the game 21-20.

Sam Deacon never really came to terms with the pace of the green and lost to 15 against Mr Prescott.

Skipper Terry Lytham was always struggling but kept hanging in there.

Despite being 17-8 down at one stage he made a remarkable comeback before narrowly losing 21-19 to Terry Taylor.

Tommy Taylor of Tottington and Duncan Watkins had to contend with a thunderstorm in the middle of their finely-poised game.

Tommy never got to grips after that and Duncan ran out 21-14.

Nigel Greenhalgh was man-of-the-match and never put a foot wrong, winning easily over Roy Ellison (21-6).

Terry Fahy played John Hodson in another excellent game under terrible weather conditions and John went on to win 21-14.

John Pearson played his usual steady game against Paul Brett and won 12-15 while John Mort was playing his old Turton teammate Dave Hoyle and, with the green resembling a lake, Dave won 21-10.

Last game of the night involved Paul Atherden and Simon Ellison.

It was 18-10 for Paul but Simon managed to get the next few points before going down 21-14.
