WESTLEIGH Basketball Club recently took part in a derby game with a difference.

The Ruffryderz and Warriorz teams were guaranteed gold and silver medals when they qualified to meet each other in the Year 9 and 10 division of the Greater Manchester Youths Basketball League.

In the league table, the Ruffryderz finished in top spot with their clubmates taking third place. Both then qualified for the final - and a meeting with some familiar faces.

The greater experince of the Ruffryderz carried them through in the final but it was the Warriorz who were voted the most improved team in their age group.

The club also had success in the Year 11, 12 and 13 divisions with the Wizardz gaining bronze medals.

Head Coach Sharon Seaton said: "I am always amazed and very proud of how well our teams compete at such a high standard. I put this down to the dedication of both the players and coaches who give up their time voluntarily to give these young people the chance to show what they can do."

The club is based at Westleigh High School and training takes place on Monday for the Seniors year nine and above, and Tuesday for the Juniors aged five years to year eight. Boys and girls are welcome, contact Sharon on 01942 896845.
