It’s been a busy time at Woodnook Vale as Prospects volunteers have been out bird watching and giving a helping hand with bird box making.

In summer and winter, local bird experts have been out and about casting their eye over the trees and skies at Woodnook Vale spotting and noting down all the different bird species.

This is contributing to the development of the area also known locally as ‘The Lines’ or the cycle path from Accrington to Baxenden into a Local Nature Reserve.

The bird survey has been transformed from words on paper into a colourful pictoral display by PROSPECTS Foundation volunteers and can been seen in Accrington Library.

Over 50 species of birds have been spotted including chaffinch, gold crest and sparrowhawks.

Complementing the bird survey 30 bird boxes have been made at half term workshops, Accross College and by St Pauls Accrington Cub Scouts.

Volunteers will be installing the bird boxes along Woodnook Vale on Sunday 21st February, which falls in National Nest Box Week.

It is expected that birds including robins, blue tits and coal tits will be using the boxes during nesting season.

A range of community events from walks to woodland management have been organised by Lancashire Wildlife Trust and PROSPECTS Foundation with support from Hyndburn Borough Council and Lancashire County Council.
