A Foundation has been set up in memory of the famous rock’n’roll cartoonist Ray Lowry who lived in Waterfoot. Ray designed the artwork for The Clash’s hit 1979 album ‘London Calling’ and died suddenly in October 2008.
As well as being a famous rock artist with the NME, Ray also worked regularly for non-music publications, including Private Eye and Punch as a satirist and his drawings appeared in national newspapers.
The Ray Lowry Foundation will help art students and make financial awards linked to art projects.
