TESTS on a woman found dead in the street have so far not been able to confirm her cause of death.

Karen Davies, 47, was discovered in Audley Street, Blackburn, in the early hours of Saturday, after collapsing just 50 yards from her home.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out, but proved inconclusive and the results of toxicology tests will be at least a week.

Meanwhile, police have stressed that the arrest of a man over an alleged assault on Ms Davies is not connected with her death.

A spokesman for Lancashire Constabulary said: “We can confirm that a man was arrested on suspicion of assault in relation to a previous incident invol-ving Ms Davies.

“This man has now been bailed pending further inquiries.

"At this stage no arrests have been made in direct connection with the death of Ms Davies.”

Police said Ms Davies had underlying health problems and are treating her death as ‘unexplained’, rather than suspicious.

There were no signs of injuries and her possessions had not been taken.

An inquest was opened on Tuesday and adjourned until March 4.

A taxi driver had spotted Ms Davies as he drove past the scene around 4.30am.

He returned at 5.20am and rang 999.

Police are appealing for information to try and piece together Ms Davies’ final movements Anybody with any information should contact police on 01254 51212 or call Crime-stoppers on 0800 555 111.
