WHITTAKERS of Blackburn showed support for ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ contestant Robbie White by embroidering special caps for his family.

The Cleaver Street firm was approached by Robbie’s mum Chris Shepherd to make six caps, spelling out 'R-O-B-B-I-E’ for his family to wear to the show.

Nicknamed the ‘Stockport Spider’ by presenter Cat Deeley, Robbie, 22, has made it to the semi-final of the BBC 1 programme, which airs at 7.05pm this Saturday. And Chris, 58, who found about about the firm from an internet search engine hopes the unsual headgear will spur her son on to victory.

She said: “Everyone else was wearing T-shirts, so we thought caps would be a bit different.

“You don't know from one week to the next whether you will still be in the show or voted off, so when I approached Whittakers I wasn't sure if they would be able to make them in time.

“But I was so thrilled they did because they have done a fabulous job.

“Robbie has bright platinum hair, so the yellow caps match his high visibility!”

The professional contemporary dancer has already toured the world but now he hopes this opportunity will propel him to new heights working in the UK.

Jenny Duckworth, sales rep at Whittakers, said: “We get a few requests like this for personalised items, but not many of them are to be worn on TV! We wish him good luck.”

Nigel Lythgoe, Arlene Phillips, Louise Redknapp and Sisco Gomez judge contestants challenged each week to master different styles of dance.

The winner will walk away with £100,000 and the chance to compete in ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ in Hollywood.
