THREE men were last night arrested after climbing onto a house roof in a four-hour stand-off with police.

The trio were on the top of a property in Canal Street, Church, before giving themselves up.

Police said officers had arrived at the house at around 4pm to arrest a teenager on an unrelated charge.

However, he and two friends were soon on the roof of the terraced two-storey property evading arrest and hurling slates at the ground, police said.

Around 10 officers, several vehicles, police dogs and a trained negotiator were then brought in to tempt the three down from the roof.

Firefighters from Accrington were also on hand with ladders to aid the efforts.

At around 8pm, the trio came down and were immediately arrested for public order offences.

They were in police custody in Blackburn last night.

Insp Dave Clark, from Lancashire Police, said: “We put a cordon around the address while the negotiator was at the scene.

“It was safe for people to walk to and from their houses but we stopped vehicles going down the road.

“In the end I think the cold weather took its toll and they came down.”
