AN investigation has been launched by detectives after a 41-year-old man was found with serious head injuries in a Brierfield street.

Archie Cook Tanner, of St James Street, Brierfield, later died from his injuries in hospital.

He was found lying on a pavement in Sackville Street at around 11.30pm on Saturday.

Paramedics rushed him to the Royal Blackburn Hospital by ambulance where he died at around 11am yesterday.

Police know that Mr Tanner, also known locally as KC Jones, spent part of Friday afternoon at a house in the town’s Railway View.

But they need to establish his movements for the final 24 hours of his life, between then and when he was discovered lying half in the road.

Detective Inspector Jim Elston said: “We need to piece together his movements over the 24 hours up until he was found unconscious.

“I appeal to anyone who saw Archie between Friday afternoon and Saturday night to come forward to the police.

“We still remain open minded as to how he has come by his injuries although there is clearly evidence that he has previously fallen over when affected by alcohol.

“I would like to establish exactly how he has come by his injuries on this occasion and I would ask anyone who is able to help to get in touch.”

Results of post mortem tests are still being awaited but the police said Mr Tanner’s death was at present not being treated as suspicious.

DI Elston said that Mr Tanner’s family had been informed of his death.
