A PARK and Ride scheme could be introduced to take fans to Turf Moor after complaints about parking on streets near the ground.

Brunshaw residents told police at a recent meeting they were fed up of not being able to park outside their own homes on match day.

Lancashire County Council, Burnley Council, the football club and police are now holding talks to try to find a solution, which could include a park-and-ride or residents’ parking schemes.

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “We have been in discussions with the other agencies and we’ll be trying to work something out.

“As the highways authority we will be involved in any traffic orders, such as road closures on match days or residents parking.”

The club are also using a consultant to try to look at ways of getting fans to travel to Turf Moor without using the car.

A police spokesman said: “Discussions are to take place between Lancashire County Council, Burnley Borough Council, Burnley Football Club and local officers to implement a park and ride facility or residents only parking.”

Residents living near the ground said parking had become a problem on match days.

Melissa James, of Brunshaw Road, said: “The traffic on match day is really bad here and something needs to be done.

“If you go out on a Saturday when Burnley are at home it is impossible to get a parking spot anywhere near your house when you get back.”

Darren West, of Brownhill Avenue, said: “Fans are always parking in this area but I don’t know what can be done about it.

“I know a lot of people are upset about but it is difficult to know what the solution is.”

“In an ideal world we wouldn’t have any problems but if you live near the football ground you kind of know what to expect.”
