EAST Lancashire has 175 fewer businesses following a recession-hit 2009, new figures reveal.
The statistics, compiled by Lancashire County Council from the Office of National Statisticsreveal that the difference between the number of VAT-registered enterprises in 2008 and 2009 for East Lancashire’s six boroughs was 175.
Hardest hit was Pendle, with 60 fewer businesses last year than in 2008. Ribble Valley had 40 fewer, while Hyndburn and Rossendale both had 30 fewer.
Most resilient boroughs were Blackburn with Darwen, which lost just 10 businesses from its 2008 total of 3,895, and Burnley, which had five fewer than its 2008 number of 2,255.
