Kitty Ussher met Prince’s Trust participants on Friday at Burnley Central Methodist Church, where she explained the work that MPs do, both in Westminster and locally, and answered their questions.

She enjoyed hearing their suggestions as to things they’d like to see the government doing more on, which ranged from more support for young people in hostels to the legalisation of cannabis.

One issue that the participants were keen for the Government to address was lowering the drinking age to 17, so Kitty has taken up the case on behalf of the group, and has written to the Prime Minister putting forward their arguments.

The Prince’s Trust is supported by the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, and brings together groups of young people build their teamwork skills and confidence by working together on community projects as well as giving them useful commercial work experience.

Kitty said; “I’ve been to quite a few of these Princes’ Trust programmes in the last few years and I think they are really excellent.

"I thought the participants asked me some very intelligent questions, and I think I was able to give them some answers.

"It was very interesting to hear their suggestions as to what they think the Government should be prioritising, and I look forward to the Prime Minister’s response on the issue of lowering the drinking age!”
