GUERRILLA poetry hit Accrington this week as part of National Poetry Day.

Described as a celebration of words, stories, thoughts and feelings, the event at the Arndale Centre was part of a new project called Get Into Reading East Lancashire.

It was led by the organisation A Good Read along with Lancashire County Council Library and Information Service.

Janet Swan, project manager, said: “Guerrilla Poetry is our way of hitting town with our enthusiasm for poetry.

“Through our reading groups, we have seen the fantastic way that poetry can help people talk about all sorts of things, and make connections in new ways.

“Most people wouldn’t consider poetry to be something relevant to them, but with a bit of coaxing, most people realise that a poem can sum up in a few meaty words, exactly what they are thinking or feeling.”

Get Into Reading Groups are a chance to relax while listening to or reading poetry.
