MOTORISTS are being warned to expect heavy traffic ahead of the East Lancashire derby this weekend.

Clarets fans will be travelling to the game on organised coaches as agreed by both football clubs and the police. It is anticipated that both before, and after, the match, motorists using the M65 in East Lancashire may encounter some delays during the policing operation.

As this fixture will attract a full house, delays should be expected around Junction 4 of the M65 in both directions.

Police are advising Burnley fans attending the game to follow the travel guidance from their club, arrive in plenty of time at Turf Moor, if possible get a lift into Burnley and park sensibly and lawfully.

The force is also telling home fans travelling to Ewood Park that they may need to travel earlier then usual.

Inspector Phil Cottam said: "I would ask motorists and fans to be patient as they travel on this day. “
