RESURFACING work on Darwen’s busiest road is under way.

Vital work to the A666 between Darwen Circus and Wraith Street is due to be completed within three weeks.

The task involves removing the existing surface layer of the road and replacing it with two new layers of tarmac.

To limit the impact on motorists, the council has decided that the works will only take place between 10pm and 6am, Monday to Thursday.

To assist the contractor, Hardman Way is closed at its junction with Bolton Road.

Diversion routes are in place.

Team leader Jim Smith said: “Unfortunately, as with work of this nature, some inconvenience will occur but every effort will be made to keep this at a minimum.”

A letter explaining the procedure has been sent to homes and businesses in the area.

Sunnyhurst councillor Dave Hollings said: “I would like to know if the council has done all it can to minimise disruption.

“There is a possibility of traffic chaos during the three weeks.”
