A SCHOOL with historic links to Accrington Stanley has joined the fight to save the Reds.
Peel Park Primary School’s playing fields are on the site of Accrington Stanley’s original ground. And yesterday the school staged a day of fundraising to help the club raise funds to pay off its £308,000 tax bill.
Stanley have around two weeks to find the cash or face being wound up. So far around £90,000 has been raised.
Children went to school yesterday dressed in red to show support to the club and took part in a penalty shoot out against the team’s mascot Winstanley.
Headteacher Judith Williams said: “The kids have had a great day and have been really excited about meeting the players and having their shirts signed by them.”
The children were also delighted that players, the chairman and chief executive gave them a talk.
